Christ Church Cockermouth
Christ Church Cockermouth are a group of ordinary people bound together by our love of Jesus and commitment to serve him in Cockermouth and the surrounding area.
In addition to our Sunday services we host our Parish Messy Church and share our lives together over coffee, at Messy Church, our book club, walking group, monthly coffee morning and together at New Wine and many more.Christ Church is a vibrant modern church which enjoys trying new ideas that bring colour and inspiration into our traditional services using sound, video and symbols making services more interactive and involving.
Vision and Mission
As part of our "Conversations" journey, the church committed to a new vision for Christ Church Cockermouth at a special service on March 4th, 2018.
Our Vision is
Where faith grows we will be …...
more inviting of our communities,
more connected to each other,
more touched by inspired worship and
more involving of families and children.
We will develop buildings that provide accessible, comfortable, exciting and reflective places for all to discover God’s love.
In addition, we have three mission statements which guide us on how we will deliver the Vision.
For further information, please read our Christ Church Cockermouth Vision Summary.
Over the coming months, we hope to explore creatively how we can share this vision and mission statements in different ways which embed them within our church and out into our wider community. One idea that has already been created is a vision painting. Other ideas include home vision cards and a church video collage. If you have a creative idea or ideas please share them with a member of the Vision Team, Chris Albon, Ann Peate, Cath Soulsby or Gareth Browning so we can support the vision going forward.
As we take forward our new vision for Christ Church to be more connected we have changed our Sunday service times. All are welcome to either or both services and times of fellowship and refreshment.
8:30 am Holy Communion.
Each week there is an early morning opportunity to share Holy Communion and worship guided by an order of service.
9:30 am Shared fellowship and refreshments. At 9:30 our two congregations come together to share fellowship and refreshments before the 10:00 service starts.
10.00am Family Service with Holy Communion on 1st and 3rd Sundays
On the 1st, 3rd Sundays we share the bread and wine of Holy Communion as part of the service. Our 2nd Sunday service is shorter informal service without Holy Communion
On the 4th Sunday of each month (except July and August) we enjoy a different all age cafe style service mixing crafts, drama, songs, sketches and quiz.
After our 10:00 service, we share fellowship and refreshments.
Every Sunday our children enjoy children's church. They join us for the welcome and first song and usually leave for their groups during the first prayer. They return for Holy Communion or at the end of the service if there is no communion.
When there are five Sundays in a month we meet on the last Sunday as a United Service with other Churches in the Cockermouth Area Team rotating around the other team churches.
Families, children and young people are the future of our church at at Christ Church and are always welcome.
Our Sunday 10:00 am service is our family service during which children go to Children's Church on our 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sundays. Find out the latest on our Children's Church Facebook page. Our 4th Sunday cafe style service is always different with quizzes, crafts, drama and games which are designed for everyone to join in with.
Outside of our Sunday service, our parish-wide children's activities continue with Messy Church, from 4pm til 6pm on the second Sunday of the month and our fortnightly Jump group for secondary school age and older. We also have an After School Singing Group .
In addition to our regular services we have home groups that meet weekly around Cockermouth:-
Mayo Park (Tuesdays) , Slatefell (Wednesdays), Kirkgate (Wednesdays), Town (Wednesdays)
As well as Lighthouse our young adults group.
These groups offer the opportunity of informal mid week fellowship in a friendly home setting.
A number of our members enjoy biking, walking and reading together and annually many spend time together at the New Wine Christian Fesitval.
